Swan Lane Mills - Asian culture
Nelson, Burnley, Blackburn and Preston have large Asian communities. Minority ethinic groups comprise about 23% of the population of Blackburn with Darwen. In the 1960's, young males from the Indian subcontinent came to Lancashire to work in the mills. Their families followed and people of Asian heritage now comprise about 6% of the population of (post-1974) Lancashire.
The lady in this photograph is wearing a burqa - not an unusual site these days in Asian communities.
